Fight on the Flag: The Forums

I said I’d never do forums. I was wrong. But if the forums are abused in any way, they’ll be taken away. This is a beta version. Please help me test bugs and such.

View the forums here: <Fight on the Flag> The forums

When I’m satisfied there will be a perma link here on the Web site.

Feel free to post suggestions on forum titles, catagories and user titles. I am incredibly new to phBB forums so please bear with me.

Saturday EOTS briefing

Not much to report, other than we had lots of fun and only lost one game all day. I’m sure our mail is overflowing with EOTS marks.

We also did some WSG so one of us could get the black wolf. I’m sure you’ve noticed most of the screens I take we’re basically winning. I do that because I need to heal people, and when I take a screen, I remove my cluttered UI and then push the “print screen” key. When that happens I get a good 2-3 second lag time where someone could easily die.

Here we see Huller carrying the flag in WSG. About 2-3 seconds after I took this shot, he was dead, and wondering where the heals were. Well, now you know! (And knowing is half the battle!)

Friday EOTS and a revelation

First the fighting! What fun! We didn’t have a full premade, which always makes things unpredictable.

I don’t get this guy! We’re four-capping, what else are we supposed to do? I had to laugh. Hard.

Mage tower assault

We won all of our games (including a four-cap against a 14-man Doomhammer premade) except against a Kel Thuzad premade , and in that game, though we lost 2000 to about 600. We had them three capped toward the end. Our biggest challenge when not running a full <Fight on the Flag> premade is trying to get the PUGs to stop following! It’s annoying but I can’t blame them, safety in numbers and all that.

Bear form will not save you!

New tutorials page!

During the downtime I created a new page for the tutorials we’ve posted. Also I updated the tutorial for Arathi Basin to make it more organized. I’ll be adding more pictures to the Basin guide as well. Every tutorial will be posted here first, then I will add it to the tutorials page. They will also always be included in the tag cloud to the lower right.

Also, if you want me to write a tutorial, let me know what you’re interested in.

Sunday PVP review: AB

We had a few good runs, but still need some work. Our most fun game was one against a Deathwing premade:

They outgeared and outclassed us in just about every way. But in the end we won, despite the disparate deaths and honorable kills columns:

To PVP in AB, or, how I learned to stop worrying and fight on the flag

Basin weekend is coming up and I thought I’d resurrect a very old guide I wrote about how to fight on the flag. Arathi Basin is perhaps the most frustrating battleground because if you go in there by yourself, nobody fights on the flag, let alone guards it.

A lonely flag

A lonely flag

Well, I’m here to help you learn to fight on the flag, the <Fight on the Flag> way!

  1. Out of the gates
  2. Guarding the flag
  3. Assaulting the flag
  4. Defending the map
  5. Ending the game

Saturday pvp: AV, AB and Halaa

Obligatory opening quote (from AB):

We did quite a bit of Alterac Valley today, as it is AV weekend. Bright and early we started out competing for players in a premade AV. Honestly I didn’t like it much. It was like herding cats. People seem to think that they can join a premade and it magically makes them suck less. No. It doesn’t.

After reaching a high point of about 25 players, we had a few people leave, either out of boredom or frustration (we have long “turtle” games because we actually have fun in PVP instead of running like zombies to the end). Then we had the really cool people left, mostly from guild but a few who were not. At least I added a couple more to my friends list :)

And we also did some AB (one EOTS for the daily). We three to five capped each AB we joined, as we had about seven players.

Oh and we were up against a top-tier guild from another server (I forget which one). They had two rogues with Twinblades of Azzinoth.

But I look like Illidan, how can I still suck?!

Worst. EOTS. Ever.

Right now <Fight on the Flag> is kind of a small guild. The only premade we’ve been able to do in house only were WSG. Unfortunately when we try to rule the EOTS world, sometimes things go bad. Very bad.

It’s really too bad that I don’t have screenshots of battle action to prove it, but really how helpful is a shot of my dead twink druid with barely over 100 resilience anyway? Not very.

So instead, I have a picture of a map. More about why this sucked below.

Saturday pvp: EOTS

Eye of the Storm! After we had about five people, we really started rolling, but I think the deciding factor of our constant success was Stomples, Huller’s geared PVP warrior. Here are some pics:

As you can see, we do indeed fight on the flag! More proof below.

PVP-friendly addons

All downloads are from Curse Gaming.

Preform AV Enabler: allows a user to join at the same time as others in the Alterac Valley battleground. It’s the same as if you were to count down and manually queue at the same time.

Baud Map: Allows you to see anyone on your friends list in the raid. Very useful for AV where all the little dots are blue (your friend’s dots are bright green).

Natur EnemyCastBar: Part of the functionality won’t work after 2.4 because Blizzard is changing the combat lot system, but that’s not why we use it. If you kill someone in PVP, it says “FIRST BLOOD” and subsequent kills say other things when you down someone. It’s mostly for fun.

Proximo: Good arena mod that lets you see your enemy’s group combination.

X-Perl UnitFrames: Seems like information overload at the start, but this is a great mod for healers. Scaleable raid windows for those pesky times you get into AV and the raid leader is AFK.

Feel free to suggest more addons!
