Heya, just a quick note. Our guild arena teams, if you hadn’t noticed, are just here to help people with no other outlet to get points. But I am finding that week after week, the teams are full. So full that we almost had to create another team.

Trust me, even if you have crap resilience you’ll get a better score if you’re on a team with five dedicated players. Preystalker, who has 43 resilience, is on 1500s teams in 2s and 3s. My druid Kinare, however, has 213 resilience and the team is 1270 ranked. Ouch!

The point is, you need time to build synergy between players, and you really cannot do that if you have people jumping in and out for points.

Here’s a link to Blizzard’s Web site about arena teams.

Team Charters can be purchased at the following locations:

“King Dond” – The Ring of Trials in Nagrand

Steamwheedle Sam – Circle of Blood in Blade’s Edge Mountains

Bip Nigstrom – Gadgetzan in Tanaris

The prices for team charters are:

2v2 Team Charter – 80g

3v3 Team Charter – 120g

5v5 Team Charter – 200g

A final note, even the “good resil” team has challenges. It was also full last week, and it only reached a 1554 rating. My priest, Xorena, is on there, and she has 432 resil.

So get to it! Find people who can do arenas with you at the same time every week. You’ll get more points than being on a guild team that’s really just there for backup purposes.

For those of you who want to get a bit better at arenas, check out this 5v5 video from pvpsource.com. It’s made from an elemental shaman’s point of view.

In a nutshell, warrior stays on the priest to interrupt mana burns. While this is going on, you’re supposed to purge their buffs until the warrior builds up enough rage to kill something. Don’t cc healers in the beginning. CC the DPS. Then when teh warrior has enough rage, pop trinkets/bloodlust/PI etc and kill the warrior. After that it’s smooth sailing.

I really like pvpsource.com so far. They have some podcasts you can listen to as well. While they are 20 minutes long and are kind of boring, you can learn a bit about your class and how high-end pvp teams think.

The forums also provide constructive feedback for newb questions.

Edited to add more video links below.

Sck from Team Pandemic posts a lot of videos on his site. A good one from Sck’s point of view. Sck is a paladin.

Also a good one from pvpsource from a 2300+ disc priest. Notice the use of pillars in all of these videos by the healers (especially the druid in the 2300 video trying to get away from the priest, about 1/3 through the vid).

The long-awaited guide to focus targeting and macros, written by Huller/Khaevil/Stomples.

First, in key bindings bind a key to:
Focus Target – will set current main target as focus target
Target Focus – will target your focus target as your main target

Focus target is used to have two target windows:

Standard strategy is to have all your spells macroed, for example:

#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/cast [modifier:alt, target=focus][nomodifier] Counterspell

That way you can keep killing while watching that healer or whatever in the focus target, when they start a heal hit the macro with the modifier and it’ll counterspell that healer instead.

For instance, if you use the above macro and hold alt while hitting your counterspell button, it counterspells the focus target. But if you do not hit alt, it counterspells your current target.

Post questions if you have any please.

EDIT: I am told CC focus is a good mod for making quick focus target macros. Macroing is certainly not my forte so I’ll be trying this out sometime today and Monday.

For those not in the know, we have two guild arena teams for 5v5. Guildies can join the team if they cannot find their own team, or you can throw alts in there. The thing is, there’s quite a few people who are in the 200-300 resil category and quite a few more who just hit 70. So this weekend we’re going to shift all the people with good resilience to one team.

This is more fair to the people with high resilience, I am sure you can guess, because that way they don’t get in a sucky team that only gets 300 points a week. I’ll still have my druid on the newb team (she has 129 resil) and I’ll have my priest on the good team (420+ resil). It’s just more fair to balance it out. Best way to get on the “good team” is to get more resilience gear, and that means you should try to do BGs as much as you can.

Other than that, we do arenas when we have enough people on, and that usually means Sunday. Feel free to post questions on the new policy or ask Perle in game.
