Weekend review: PVE and PVP

Ugh, the 20s are slooooww leveling! And boring if the PVP queues aren’t popping. A few of us decided to push the envelope and return to a tried and true method: AE grinding.

There’s not much out there by way of information, if anyone was wondering. There are no guides to grinding AE style yet (though there are other guides to leveling). For those who came from Warcraft and are wondering: mob grinding and scenario queues are the fastest way to level from what I hear. Quests, as the fellow in the link says, are not worth the time and effort if you want to maximize your experience per hour.

AE grinding goes waaay back for long-time FotF members. One of our members has a video of a rather large pull from Avalon City in our DAOC days (I’ll ask around and put it on YouTube). Throughout the weekend we did some AE grinding, which was a heck of a lot faster than questing, mixed in with scenarios.

I’ve not been as great a photographer in recent weeks. We just moved and I just reinstalled photoshop, so now we’re in business. Expect a weekly report, since we mostly play on weekends anyway.

Official release date: Sept. 18

So now we know when the game will officially be up. Unfortunately I am going to be out of town until the 23rd, so you guys will have to work out the bugs for me.

I am not sure if Saaz will be done with his big test by then. He’s been studying like crazy for this thing and if he has not yet taken the test then we won’t be playing until he is done. Nearly every spare moment, even on weekends, he is studying.
We haven’t played any MMORPGs at all in this time

Feel free to hop on the boards and say hi. I’m not sure how many will really transfer games to play Warhammer, but even with the diminished content I have high hopes for the game. We’ll mostly be weekend warriors I think.

And since usually there are no adult-only guilds, we’re probably going to create our own guild again, restricted to 18+ again. Names for the guild are welcome, but I don’t think flags, or fighting on them, are a big deal in Warhammer, unfortunately.

Class imbalances: should we play Order?

I’ve always been a big fan of playing the underdog realm. Mind you, not too
underdog. Playing on Mid-Pellinor was rough in DAoC when Mid was only 15 percent of the three-realm server. But according to a poll by the Warhammer Alliance, there is roughly a 60-40 split of Destruction vs. Order. Thegreenskin.com analyzes the results here.

I can’t say I’m surprised. Most PVPers seem to want to play an uncharismatic race:

They’re also marketing their game as RvR and most recently, “hardcore.” A game like this is naturally going to appeal more to the people who traditionally play “evil” races in other MMORPGs. In World of Warcraft, it’s no mystery that Horde players fancied PvP more than Alliance.

So keep an Order class in mind, folks. We don’t want to be roaming in RVR looking for a fight all day because other groups get to the bad guys first. I’d personally rather play the underdog, even if I have to look cute to do it.

Warcraft worried about Warhammer, copies new game elements

So Warcraft appears to be taking a page from the play book of Warhammer. Just go read this NDA-breaking blogger, Kenzi at Deathknight Info to find out. Chiefly the achievement system (check the first set of screen shots) appears to be alive and well on Warcraft.

If you browse the achievements, you get badges for winning WSG, AB, EOTS games. Not sure what the badges do, to be honest.

That’s kind of cheesy I think. But it shows Warcraft is actually concerned about Warhammer, and that’s a good thing. This does make me wonder, though, if Warcraft players are going to be complacent with the “innovations.” If many of them are holding their breath for Warhammer, will they stay with WoW becuase WoW is copying Warhammer?

I hope players can see through the smokescreen.
